Chao from Vietnam.
I sent out some post cards so you all should look for them in the mail in 14 to 21 days
Left Hoi An with new clothes for me and Boy, and then hiked up Marble Mountain. The mountain is named so for its entirely marble core, which the local town has been harvesting and sculpting for a few centuries now.
I have been taking copious photographs which I am hoping to print once I get home.
I am currently a little under the weather. I feel a little sick due to the cold weather and dampness here. My nose is a bit runny and I have a sore throat.
I took the morning off and sketched for a few hours and then joined my group for the tours of the tombs outside Hue. They were erected for the emperors of the time back in the 1860's and 70's. Before the French. They are quite a site and I wish i could upload photos.
The internet is not as expensive here as it was in Ho Chi Minh City, probably because it is slower. However, phone calls are more expensive and i will not be making any more until Hanoi on the 12th.
The group is out watching how lacquer paintings are made, however I took one step into the studio and the fumes gave me an instant migraine. I gave my camera to Taylor and so pictures should be coming soon.
I am going to get a 6$ massage this evening because the bus rides have been giving me back aches.
It seems like I am full of complaints but its really just the weather. being so d**n and wet for the past few days it is harder to have a sunny outlook. We drove through the country for four hours yesterday between Hoi An and Hue and I have some great shots of the villages and people.
I have been thinking about how much Vietnam looks and feels like Costa Rica. the resemblence is incredible and I have pictures from this trip that look almost identical to those from CR.
I have also been thinking about my trip to Mexico and have come to the conclusion that when i was there, i was in so much pain that everything around me hurt even more. The poverty was more intense and apparent than in Vietnam. However, in vietnam I have no been looking at the people's housing so much as the people. In Mexico I saw only their shacks and not the people. I have therefore comcluded that I have not been fair to the country or its people in my opinion and will go back in the far future to try again. I do not think I would like to return any time soon, however, because I have so many places I would like to see for the first time before I go look at the same thing twice.
I have to log off because it is expensive, still, at a dollar for 20 minutes.
More form Hanoi, or perhaps in a day or so.
Love you Boy.
