apnews.myway.com/article/20060223/D8FUH3AO2.html Hi baby, Got a little worried just now because I read that there was an Earthquake in Mozambique. I know you are a pretty safe distance from there, but still alittle scary. Did you feel it at all?

Hi Didn't hear about the earthquake--boy is clearly way more vigilant, but I'm glad he is! I noticed he sent you a bunch of websites-good. This week's NewYorker cover has Cheney and Bush in denim jackets with mountains in the background and Cheney blowing the smoke off a smoking gun. Very funny-think Brokeback Mountain.... lol. Cheny shot a hunting partner, he had a mild heartattack but recovered...awww....Roz Chast in the New Yorker had three greeting cards from Cheney to the guy--1. get well as fast as you can, 2. sorry for accidentally shooting you in the face, and 3. thank you for not dying (stay away from the light was in the poem!) I'm sure you remember Roz Chast's work, (squiggley lines, some color, middle class angst, funny) Daddy finished this week's grant deadline with probably 30 minutes to spare...now he is on his way to DC, actually probably there now since he planned to eat at one of his favorite restaurants: Ten Penh. He seemed excited thia morning as I took the now (old news ) birthday boy to work.
His b day was uneventful aside from the grant deadline and he, me, and Jimmy went for burgers at Anna Liffey's before they went to chamber music--nice for him. He was clearly feeling glad about passing yet another grant deadline.
Nana wanted me to come down this week, but between my moderately nasty cold (now gone) and appointments, concert tickets, etc. I had set up I just couldn't get there. She was really understanding though, made me feel better since I do want to visit, but just couldn't manage this time, (felt bad nonetheless.) My vercationis nearly done, mort, history, no more, ended, over. I got a good bit of stuff done--you know how I am: want some relaxing but a good deal of productive activities too. So, got the overdue taxes done (yay) and cleaned up some of the squirrelly corners of the house, yay, and got to work for a half day, yay, and relaxed, yay, yay, yay. So, Monday back to the routine. yay too.
So that's todays news. and maybe some of yesterdays too. Daddy said you sounded great whenyou called him for his birthday--thoughtful and good job. Daddy was clearly thrilled. Thanks for remembering--(as if you wouldn't) thanks so much. good job.
That's it. No more news/chatting. I'll write again soon. So happy to read the blog. Thanks for setting it up. Love you and miss you (but thrilled you are in Kenya!) mommy xxxooo

Hello Aly, I really have not much to say.....it is very cold and wndy here.. Would you believe I managed to drop my Grandmother's magnifyng glass on my leg last week....and for a novellty this morning I dropped a spoon on my ankle. I am trying to get the quilting ladies create two quilted shin guards...so far no one has offered! I wonder if your parents sent you Time Magazine, it would help you. When I lived in Geneva, I just anxiously waited for it. Did you know Aunt Donna is walking 60 miles in 3 days for Cancer Research in October? Where exactly are you living now? Will write soon again Luv Nana

Sorry i could not write this weekend but I was on a remote desert island... More on that in the kiwayuu blog.
Thanks for the news boy, but i can go find links for myself. I need someone to do what mom did and sum up some stuff. Because this computer loads so slowly, if i open links, it kinda shuts down- doesn't like more than one thing at a time. The computers all around kenya are like that.
BTW, I swear that first article read Mosquito Attack Pushes Iraq Toward Civil War. I thought: I know how they feel, I got bit on my ring finger last night right under where my ring is... I was very cranky.
how are the winter olympics? Or are they th specials? is little debbie trapped in a bobsled somewhere?
Anyway, i finally have some free time to catch you all up, so let me go write a new chapter in my kenyan story...
