This computer has a tendency to add unwanted letters and change the spelling of things to the Kenya Phonetic....
So I am going to meet with Donna Pido (from the Nairobi University) tomorrow.
My test in Kiswahili was okay... I think i did fine and am just being paranoid although i flipped out after me test from nerves and Egan had to calm me down on the way home which ended up being nothing more than a giggle fest.... ugh i cant believe that was only yesterday....'
Since my test yesterday at 5:30 PM I walked home with Egan, showered, ate dinner, met up with Egan at a bar called Barons, 'watched him drink a beer with Dylan... Then some of the Students and Dylan and i went to a club on the North Coast called TEMBO (elephant) and where there from 10:30PM to 3:45 AM. That's like 5 hours people...
So mom don't read the next part, nana neither.
So we drank and danced and had vodka shots and had an interesting time saving Egan from all the sex workers who went to the club because it was ladies night (free entry). then afterward Egan and i talked for like 2 hours and danced and Lia and Rachel and i then danced with most of the locals.
THEN we got tired so we got in a mutatu and headed for home at like 4 AM. So Egan, rachel, lia and i were the only people in this mutatu, which is like a 14 passenger van, and we stopped to drop someone off and we were about two blocks from our stop when this woman starts screaming SEMAMA SEMAMA which means stop. So the mutatu stops and she leaps on and starts shouting Tuenda tuenda, go go!
So this part is also not for mom or nana.
So about one second later before the sliding door is shut this cop with this huge automatic weapon/rifle/gun thing (oh yeah, you know i know what i'm talking about) with his finger ON the trigger jumps on to the mutatu which has started moving. it then stops and Egan gets hit in the back with the gun and lia is staring like right down the barrel of this huge weapon the size of my extended arm. So egan and lia rush past the cop and the woman who has started climbing over the chairs in the mutatu and is trying to get out an open window on the other side. So Rachel and i book it out of the van and we all four start walking hurriedly away while the cop and woman are yelling at one another and the mutatu driving is just trying to get out alive...
So then we just keep walking home in Mombasa at 4:30 AM as if nothing happened....
So we tried to drop me off first and my homestay mother had turned her phone off, but since it was so early we figured by the time we walked rachel and lia home it would be time for morning prayer and she'd be awake.
So Egan and i walked lia and rachel home, and about 30-40 minutes later tried to get into my house again. But unsuccessful as that was i had to crash at Egan's homestay house, which made me feel so bad because he insisted I take the bed and he take the floor in the living room...
So I walk up about two hours later, feeling awesome (no sarcasm intended) and try to wake the log-that-was-Egan out of his REM sleep, but he just went back to bed... So i go home (which is basically at the other end of the alley), get in after banging on the door for ten minutes.
Talk to my mom who was like "oh there you are, thats cool..." and since i was all sleep deprived and cranky it wasn't the best response i could have gotten.
So we decided that since i didn't sleep there that night i could give the 500 Shillings (less than eight US dollars) i was supposed to pay her to Egan's family instead.
So then i tried to wake Egan up, AGAIN. And he finally got out of bed after being coaxed with words such as "Athman will kill you if you miss this lecture", which may or may not have been the truth, I'm not telling.
So we walked to the office for class at 8:30 am on Saturday and did that lecture thing until 11, then had a party at this hotel resort place outside of town with our homestay familes... Mine didn't show up... three geusses why.
And now I'm back here... in the internet cafe... sort of not wanting to go home cause i don't know what the deal is.
But i had a really fun time last night, and basically feel pretty good.
My ISP is taking shape and i booked my plane ticket to Lamu yesterday (yeah it was a long day).
You know, life's different in Kenya.
P.S. boy, cause you need this memo badly, i like going to clubs and dancing. You need to figure that out for yourself.
Anyway i am going to try and type out the first draft of the first chapter now so i don't have to do it in Lamu at the Posta.
Love and kisses
